Managing Myopia
with Expert Care

Home » Eye Care Services » Myopia Management

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error that affects how well you can see distant objects. People with myopia have difficulty seeing clearly at a distance because light rays focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. This can happen because the eyeball is slightly longer than normal or the cornea (the clear front part of the eye) is too steeply curved.

Myopia is a common condition, affecting up to 30% of the world’s population. It can start during childhood and often progresses as the eyes grow. Myopia can be managed with corrective lenses, such as glasses or contact lenses, or with eye surgery.

Why Do I Need to Be Proactive About Myopia?

Myopia can worsen rapidly, and you may need stronger glasses or contact lenses more often. This can also increase your risk of developing eye problems like cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal detachment later in life. However, slowing down the progression of myopia can help reduce your long-term risk of these problems.

How We Can Help

At Millcreek Vision Care, we help kids manage myopia so they can see clearly, stay healthy, and perform well at school. Our optometrist does a thorough eye exam to determine the degree of your child’s myopia. Then, we work with you to choose glasses or contact lenses that correct their vision and slow down the progression of myopia.

Our goal is to give your child the best possible chance at having a bright, clear future. We'll work with you to develop a personalized myopia management plan that meets your child's individual needs.
